About Nicole Edwin, MS, CCC-SLP, CLC
A Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), a certified Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) pediatric feeding therapist, and a breastfeeding mother of four children, Nicole brings expertise, experience, and empathy to each family’s unique feeding situation.
A Pyramid of Knowledge
Holding up a pyramid of knowledge and training is Nicole’s strong educational base. A Wisconsin native, she earned her master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, MO. As an SLP, she uses her clinical training and specialization in swallowing structure and function to guide her approach toward pediatric feeding.
As an SOS therapist, Nicole comprehensively and collectively assesses a child’s feeding needs, exploring multiples aspects, including:
- oral-motor development
- sensory processing
At the apex of Nicole’s pyramid of work, where her studies, certifications, and skills converge, resides her passion – supporting the breastfed infant and breastfeeding mother as a CLC. While considered the “natural” way to nourish infants, breastfeeding can feel decidedly unnatural for both mother and baby, especially in the first days, weeks, and even months together.
Having endured her own array of breastfeeding obstacles, Nicole brings her professional and personal experiences to each client relationship. She has guided and fed children, including her own, through multiple challenges from infancy through childhood:
- tongue and lip ties
- traumatic births and sensory processing
- during and after NICU stays
- during and after tube-feeding
- breastfeeding with low milk supply
Nicole has taken action administering nutrients through all avenues, including bottle, cup, breast, and finger; and in all forms, including mother’s milk, donor milk, and formula.
“If it is your goal to breastfeed,” says Nicole, “I will provide you with support every step of the way.”
Putting It Together
There is a solution to every feeding challenge a child faces. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, as needs and goals vary from family to family. Each family, each infant, deserves experience, empathy, and support.
Through differential diagnosis, a team approach, and her clinical training and education, Nicole is your champion through the trials and the victories in the journey of nourishing your infant.
